AFE Wildland Fire Ecologist
Helping communities build better relationships with fire.
Fire has shaped landscapes for over 400 million years, and it continues to do so today. When we prepare our communities and ecosystems to receive fire, we can improve wildfire outcomes, restore ecological function, and reconnect with the land in meaningful ways.Photo Credit: Rivir Sawyer Films
I work with municipalities, First Nations, governments, and fire professionals across western Canada to plan, teach, and implement prescribed fire. My focus is on helping communities build practical, compliant, and locally driven burn programs, grounded in real-world experience and ecological understanding.
With over 30 years in wildfire, prescribed fire, land management, and fire effects monitoring, I support teams through approvals, legislation, consultation, and implementation. My work combines community-based planning, hands-on training, and mentorship to build the confidence and capacity needed to safely return fire to the landscape.
I am a Registered Professional Forester, a Biologist in Training, and Canada’s first Fire Ecologist certified through the Association for Fire Ecology. I hold a Master’s degree in Fire Ecology and bring both operational and ecological expertise, including experience as a Burn Boss, FEMO, FIRB, and DIVS.
Prescribed fire is both a technical practice and a cultural responsibility. My role is to make it achievable, supported, and safe so communities can lead the return of fire to their landscapes.
